Kavinė - New English Language Forum about Lithuania and Lithuanians

June 2, 2008

A few visitors have expressed their interest in joining me in the creation of a new English Language forum for discussions. I mentioned that if there were enough participants to get it started and more importantly to keep it moving,…I would be willing to make another attempt at creating a new forum.

As promised…On this first day of June, 2008 I am please to announce the doors (or portals!) to  ‘Kavinė’ are now opened! Consider yourself to be a welcomed guest (and hopefully and active contributing member).

Please bring your ‘Intelect’ or ‘Sense of Humour’ in with you! We respectfully request that “EGO’s and Weapons” be left outside of the premises.

As our forum grows I hope that ‘we’ will be able to provide something of interest for everyone.

Lithuanian ‘Blogger’s’ here at WordPress and other Host sites are very much welcome to post information about their own blogs as well as links to your home pages or specific topics. As well as to any other respectable site that you might maintain or recommend. Please don’t hesitate to to start a discussion of your own or to join any on going discussion.

I chose Delfi as a host because it is easy to register, easy to navigate and relatively easy to manage. (Like you, I also have a few other projects that soak up most of my free time!)

And of course all others who come in the spirit of ‘Brotherhood and Sisterhood’ are very much welcomed!

English Language Students are encouraged to join us…but please don’t embarrass the Moderator (’me’) with perfect or near perfect English Grammar! Make a few mistakes every now and then so that all eyes are not focused on my own lack of proficiency!

About other existing forums

April 23, 2008

I have already received a few e-mail suggestions and comments. A couple of people mentioned that other groups exist. This is true, I belong to a few myself. Just my opinion…most of them seem to be stuck on discussions that are limited to just a handfull of subjects. Some of them are dedicated to specific subjects such as history. Others seem to dominated by their web-master…and others present and endless stream of personal ‘chit-chat’, seldom does anything pertaining to Lithuania or Lithuanians get posted or discussed.

They all serve their members interests to some degree. And I sincerely wish them continued success. I am of the opinion that something better can be created. It only takes a few dedicated people to ’share’ in a vision. And there is always room for another Lithuanian Forum!

Forum about Lithuania and Lithuanians?

April 22, 2008

I’ve been entertaining the idea of creating a new Forum about Lithuania and Lithuanians. It would be primarily an English Language forum. Lietuviskai would be included if I can enlist the help of fluent Lithuanian speakers to act as moderators in order to insure that ethics are followed.

I tried this once before but was unable to attract enough people who shared a genuine interest in a wide variety of issues and topics. Most postings were along the lines of “Lithuania Rocks Dude!” or “I’m Lithuanian…What’s that? “

There are a lot of good people who maintain or visit Blogs here at WordPress. This time it might actually be worth attempting. I don’t recall wether or not WordPress offers such a format? Another possibility is Delphi Forums. It’s free, and easy to register. I like the page format because all topics are stored in ‘Folders’ that are easily accessed. Also, WordPress Blog owners would be able to post links and references to their blogs and specific posts. This would make it easier to let multiple commentors discuss posts in great depth without making it neccesary for the blog owners to act as a referee. Or feel obligated to answer every post.

Wether you are a WordPress blog owner or an interested visitor who may be interested in creating such a forum, please let me know if you would be interested in participating in such a forum in the future!

With respect,

Mykolas
