English Language Studies are Popular!

For those of you who aren’t already aware of the growing popularity of English studies in Lithuania, I can only offer that the major reason is perhaps tied to the desires of the Lithuanian people to improve their ability to earn an income as Lithuania enters further into world trade and tourism.

I’d like to share with you another ‘unique’ (or perhaps not) reason as to why the need to understand English might be gaining popularity (or urgency!).

Shortly after Lithuania had reclaimed her Independence, my wife and I traveled there to visit
with family. Her cousin was raising two young daughters that were not yet old enough to attend school. When adults gather for conversations, children often listen as usual. In the event that the conversation would include matters not intended for curious ears, the adults would turn to me and excuse themselves because they found it necessary to switch to the Russian language in order to prevent the young girls from hearing what was about to be said. I found this amusing because I too was left in the dark momentarily, along with the children!

Time has passed quickly and the two young girls are now two very beautiful and vibrant teenagers! For several years they have both been studying English in school. Now, when the
girls wish to prevent their parents from knowing about their daily secrets, they switch to English
and leave both parents in the dark!

Being the Parents of two teenage girls obviously requires that they keep themselves informed of the events in their children’s lives. In order to provide supervision, guidance and most importantly protection.

Both parents are now in a rush to learn English as quickly as possible!
